Long story short, word on the curb is:

Snoop Dogg got checked (or maybe reminded) by his mama that you can’t threaten a woman (a black woman, especially) on a public platform out of emotion. Snoop formally apologized to CBS anchor, Gayle King for his rant and threats last week after Gayle received backlash for an interview with WNBA star, Lisa Leslie about the late Kobe Bryant and the past sexual assault allegations.

Snoop said he had a change of heart thanks to his mother and apologized for his hurtful words. Word on the curb is, Auntie Gayle accepted his apology.

You know you pissed some people off when you can’t even get a job with the XFL! Colin Kaepernick tells the media he still wants to play football. This year, after his failed attempt to win the hearts of coaches and owners of the NFL with a private tryout that went terribly wrong, there were reports the former SF 49er quarterback was denied consideration from the XFL. Word On The Curb Is…Jussie Thought We Forgot [AUDIO]

Long story short, word on the curb is:

Jussie Smollett was recently indicted on six counts of false reporting and disorderly conduct. This incident happened in early 2019 where the former Empire star claims two men jumped him and tied a noose around his neck shouting racial and gay slurs. The charges were dropped and everything faded to black until recent when a special prosecuter determined “reasonable grounds” gives this some gas to move forward. I think Chicago authorities are (or were) embarrassed for falling for the banana in the tail pipe and want Jussie to pay for it! But I’ll wait. Click here for more.

NBA star, Kobe Bryant and his 13 year old daughter, Gianna were finally laid to rest in a private ceremony in Los Angelos earlier this week. Fans will have a chance to say their goodbyes in a public memorial service February 24th at the Staples Center. The additional lives lost in the tragic helicopter crash will have memorial services in the weeks to come. Click here for more.

More on Romeo (Miller or Lil Romeo to the OGs) who’s reported to have allegedly quit the reality show “Growing Up Hip Hop”. No word from his camp but rumors circulate that Romeo hasn’t been seen in the show for several episodes reportedly to spend more time “doing him”, tending to his businesses and to his girlfriend.

And finally, actress Gabrielle Union is seeking revenge in a recent lawsuit against former AGT co-judge and executive producer, Simon Cowell for endangering her life (he was smoking on set during breaks) during her time there. In my opinion (which nobody asked), she could be reaching with this one, but I’ma let her be great!

From Project Kid to Radio Chick-Memories of Living in the Hill District

Me at age 9 or 10. Check out my over the shoulder purse and MJ heart-shaped necklace!

Who would have thought this young girl would be a mom to an amazing son, working in radio for close to 25 years, owns a business, runs her own online radio station, running several online media & networking groups, event planning and two blogs? She had no idea!

Gentrification may have taken down the buildings but the memories are still there!

My love letter to my childhood:

Growing up in the housing projects of Elmore Square and Bentley Drive, I remember the smell of the hallways. Some smelled like “piss” and struggle and others made the best hiding places for hide and seek or hide and “go get it”. They were where we stored our bikes and baby dolls, fought our boyfriends, braided hair, smoked weed and hid from the rain until our jitney came.

High school years (John A. Brashear) I guess I was on lunch duty

The “courts” (courtyard) was a way for us to find out where you lived. For example, if someone were looking for you, they’d say you lived in the pretty court or in the court with the hole in the middle. You were lucky to live in the pretty court or the quiet court, but no one wanted to live in or visit the “old head” court. That’s where all the seniors lived, and you weren’t allowed to do anything there.

My neighbor on Bentley Drive, Miss Penny lived across the court always cooked. Sometimes you could smell the fried chicken all the way to the playground. You could smell a lot of food when the “stamps” came in.

My mom (Carrie Brown-Williams, sister Tameca Brown-Nelson and me

Miss Brenda lived on the first floor with her 2 sons. On most days, you could smell a strange odor coming from her front door. My mom used to tell my siblings and I to hold our breath all the way to the top (we lived on the third floor). We thought it was a game, but mom later told me Miss Brenda smoked crack.

I remember the neighborhood store bus “Mack Mack” that would pass through all The Hill projects (Whiteside, Elmore, Grove Street, Reed & Roberts, Bentley Drive, Burrows Street). Mom would send us to get a pack of Newport cigarettes, pumpkin seeds, Pepsi and a bag of Snyder potato chips. If there was change left, we could get penny candy.  I had no idea that back then, that was illegal!

Everyday wasn’t a scene from Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, but it was my hood. We played outside, rode on the backs of buses, swam in the pool (even after it closed) and spent our money on candy.

Years went by and people moved in and moved out of the projects. We grew up and had families of our own. Some even raised their families in the same project they grew up in. But it was cool; it was what it was.

I don’t remember when the buildings were torn down because I left after I graduated high school. There are times I wished the projects were still there but standing vacant just so I could show my son where I grew up. Sharing stories of where we played “Release The Den” and showed him how to play “Poison” in the hoop court. But that’s all gone now.

Those memories will forever live in my heart.

First 15 Lead In: Black History Month of 2020 is so embarrassing

I don’t want to contribute or even start off with something negative, but I expected so much out of my people; particularly this month because it’s 2020 and we’ve come so far! Now, we’re arguing on twitter, attacking Auntie Gayle King, Oprah and Mo’Nique going at it, Amanda Seales is constantly preaching about being proud and black on The Real, Bey & Jay didn’t stand or kneel! Now, the positive is former NAACP President Kweisi Mfume won the primary in Baltimore, taking the late Elijah Cummings seat in congress. He beat Cummings’ wife and will have to run again in the major election. More positives: Viola Davis will play Michelle Obama (?), Billy Porter wore a dress on Sesame Street (?), and Hamilton The Musical will become a movie! Did I miss anything?

“They Said” Lead In: Auntie Gayle Attacked

CBS This Morning talk show co-host Gayle King was attacked on social media. She’s receiving and responding to backlash about her recent interview with former WNBA legend Lisa Leslie from an interview where the focus was on Kobe Bryant’s rape case. Fans tore into Oprah’s bestie because there were more things THEY FELT she could have focused on BUT, Auntie Gayle responded, blaming CBS execs for not airing the whole conversation. She was mortified and embarrassed.

Comedian Lil’ Duval said he wants to trade Gayle King in for Tom Hank’s son at the next racial draft.

Have you ever been misquoted or lied on?

Up Next: Girl Talk-Nicki & Meek Need A Timeout!

Nicki Minaj and Meek Mill broke up in 2017. So why are they arguing on Twitter calling each other names and making accusations that could get Meek locked up if someone was really paying attention!

Have you ever been so scorned so badly you wanted to ruin that person’s job, family, life? Have you ever taken a breakup really hard? Done something stupid just to get back at them?

Final 15 Lead In: Erykah Badu Burns Panties To Make Incense

Valentine’s Day is coming up and every woman likes it when her man/lady/partner, whatever gives her a bottle of expensive perfume. Well, Erykah Badu is changing the game with her newest business venture.

The 48 year old singer, DJ, actress was inspired to create her own fragrance after she cut a few pairs of her panties into little pieces and burned them. The incense is called Badu’s P*ssy. She’s quoted as saying “there’s an urban legend that my P*ssy changes men.” (Andre 3000, Common to name a few).

I heard of power of the P*ssy but this is crazy?

Hey Girl Hey Podcast for FEB 1, 2020 [VIDEO]

This week on the Hey Girl Hey Podcast for Feb 1, 2020:

First 15 Lead In Kobe Bryant Legacy

                * NBA Legend, Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna and 7 passengers died in a         horrific helicopter this past Sunday.

            * This news changed the world and most lives as we reflect on life; many celebs   recognizing how life is too precious to take for granted.

            * How did this tragedy affect you and did it make you take a closer look at how you look at life? (Alexis Johnson is our guest and she will share how she learned      how to deal with the tragedy of this magnitude and how she learned to cope)

“They Said” Lead In: Amanda Seals

            * The Real talk show host, Amanda Seals said earlier this week “it’s so easy to support the black woman” when referring to the story about AGT host, Terry Crews and his lack of support for former AGT judge, Gabrielle Union. Crews   stating the only woman he should be loyal to is his wife (not his mother, daughters, co-workers, etc.) He received heavy backlash for this and THEY SAY he’s a “sell-out”.

            *What do you say?

            * Is it easy to support a black woman?

            * Are black men OBLIGATED to support the black woman? Was Terry obligated to support her as she supported him during his #metoo moment?

“Girl Talk” Lead In: I’m Black! Yeah, I’m Black, so what?

Daniel Kaluuya, star of “Get Out” and “Queen and Slim” made headlines when he was quoted saying this about black hollywood “What is there to talk about race? It’s just boring to me. What’s the debate? I’m more of a doer. I’m just going to do what I want to do.

He goes on to say “I’m not a spokesperson; I’m an individual.”

“Who’s the spokesperson for white people? There isn’t one. No one’s expected to speak up for all white people. I’m just living my life. I’m a black man, I’m proud of it, but I’m just living my life. You may victimise me, but you will not make me feel like a victim. And if you think you can, then what sort of person are you?”

Do you agree with him? Should all black people speak for all black people or for themselves as individuals?

Final 15 Lead In: Celebrating Black History Month…blah blah blah

When the news broke out that Kobe Bryant died tragically, I was with my 13 year old niece who had no idea who KB was. When I asked her what does her school talk teach them about Black History Month, she said “you know, Rosa Parks, MLK, Obama”. I almost fell out!

We stopped recognizing prominant Black Legends after we leave school and get upset when our children don’t learn more about who they should be considered leaders in our community.

Is it up to the school to teach our kids about our history or is it ours?

Who is one black historical figure that you admire, motivates or inspires you by their story?
